Introduction:
The Department of English Language and Literature at Marathwada Shikshan Prasarak Mandal’s Twaritapuri college Talwada, is committed to providing a comprehensive and balanced education through a combination of traditional and innovative courses. With a team of dedicated and dynamic faculty members, the department focuses on extensive research in vital fields, offering student-oriented capacity enhancement and skill-oriented certificate courses to foster all-round development. Established in June 1960, the Undergraduate (UG) program in English has been an integral part of the college since its inception. The department has played a crucial role in imparting English language and literature education to students pursuing B.A., B.Com., B.Sc., and other significant courses.
At present, the department is led by a team of seven vibrant faculty members with innovative minds. Their mission is to empower students to recognize that the lessons found in texts are also valuable lessons for life. The faculty members strive to equip students with essential life skills and language proficiency that will enable them to excel in any chosen field. The department boasts a well-furnished Digital Language Laboratory, complete with an LCD Projector and various video-audio aids, including English learning videos and CD/DVDs based on English literary texts. It offers Ph.D. research facilities and guidance through recognized research guideships sanctioned by Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University, Aurangabad. The department takes pride in having produced four foreign and ten Indian students who successfully obtained their Ph.D. degrees under the guidance of its faculty. Currently, the department is actively engaged in guiding ten research scholars working on diverse topics in language and literature, ranging from Sports Literature, Proverbs, Eco-Literature, Postmodern Fiction, Corporate Literature, Nobel, Gyanpith, Sahitya Academy Awardee Writers, World Literature, Linguistics, Indian Literature, American Literature, to Science Fiction.
Noteworthy achievements during the academic years 2017 to 2022 include the introduction of five skill-based value-added short-term certificate courses: Professional Skills, Leadership & Management, Spoken English, English Communication Skills, and Art of Reading. These courses are designed to enhance the practical and professional abilities of students, contributing to their holistic development.
